# Organisation settings

> Your business details in Bumara, what depends on them, and how to change them safely.

Your organisation settings are the foundation everything else is built on. Entity type drives which
obligations you carry. Financial year end drives your annual due dates. Legal name appears on every
regulator submission.

## What is held here

## The two fields that matter most

### Entity type

Company, business name, partnership, trust or NGO.

This decides which obligations Bumara creates and which services you are offered. A company files
annual returns; a business name does not. Company-only PACRA services are hidden from a business
name.

<Warning>
  Changing entity type after setup does not reshape existing filings. It only affects what is
  created afterwards. If it was wrong at setup, the obligations created from it were wrong too —
  raise it through support rather than simply changing the field.
</Warning>

### Financial year end

Entered as a day and month. Annual return due dates are calculated from it.

Filings that already exist keep the due dates they were created with. Only future filings use a
changed year end.

## Changing your details

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Settings, then Organisation">
    Only Owners and Admins can change these.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Make the change">
    Fields are validated as you type.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save">
    The change is recorded in your audit trail with your name and the time.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Check what it affected">
    See the table below.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## What each change affects

| Change             | Affects                         | Does not affect             |
| ------------------ | ------------------------------- | --------------------------- |
| Legal name | Future submissions | Invoices already issued |
| Trading name | Future invoices | Invoices already issued |
| Address | Future documents | Documents already generated |
| TPIN | Future filings and invoices | Filings already submitted |
| Financial year end | Future annual filings | Filings already created |
| Entity type | Future obligations and services | Existing obligations |
| Logo or colours | Future PDFs | PDFs already generated |

The pattern is consistent: changes apply forward. Historical documents keep the details they were
issued with, because that is what the recipient holds.

## Changing your legal name

If your business legally changes its name, the order matters:

<Steps>
  <Step title="Clear the new name with PACRA">
    See [Name clearance](/regulators/pacra/name-clearance).
  </Step>

  <Step title="File the change of name with PACRA">
    A service request. You will receive an amended certificate.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Update your organisation settings">
    Only once the change is legally effective.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Notify the other regulators">
    ZRA, NAPSA and NHIMA all need to know.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Tell your customers and vendors">
    Particularly anyone paying you by bank transfer.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Warning>
  Do not change the legal name in Bumara before the change is registered with PACRA. Submissions
  made under a name PACRA does not recognise will be rejected.
</Warning>

## Support

The support option in Settings is for questions that are not about a specific filing — how a
feature works, a billing query, a problem with your account.

Questions about a specific filing or service request should be raised as a message on that record,
so the context travels with them. See
[Messages and timeline](/compliance/messages-and-timeline).

## The audit trail

Every change to your organisation settings is recorded: what changed, from what to what, who did it
and when.

This matters more than it sounds. When a regulator queries why a submission carried a particular
address, the audit trail answers it.

## Closing your account

If you stop using Bumara:

<Steps>
  <Step title="Export your data first">
    Invoices, payroll records, documents. Do this before anything else.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Complete or cancel anything in flight">
    Filings and service requests in progress.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Settle any outstanding fees">
    Regulator fees and subscription charges.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Contact support to close the account">
    Retention of your data after closure follows your agreement.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Warning>
  Closing your Bumara account does not end your regulatory obligations. Your filings remain due,
  and the regulators will continue to expect them. Make arrangements for how they will be met.
