# Plan and billing

> What each plan includes, the add-ons available, and how to change your subscription.

Your plan determines which regulators you can connect, how many obligations and service requests
you carry, how many people you can invite, and how much storage you have.

## The plans

<Note>
  Prices are shown as a guide. The current price and what your plan includes are always confirmed
  in **Settings → Plan and billing** before you commit to a change.

<Note>
  These guides document Smart Invoice and Inventory in full because the features themselves are
  built. What is still to come is their packaging as separately priced add-ons. Check
  **Settings → Plan and billing** for what is currently available on your plan — that page is
  always the authority on what you can use today.

## Choosing a plan

  <Accordion title="Start">
    A sole trader or a very small business with straightforward obligations and one person doing
    everything.

    Three obligations covers a typical small company: PAYE, one other ZRA tax type, and a PACRA
    annual return. Two service requests a month is enough for occasional one-off work.

    Outgrow it when you need a second user, or NHIMA.

  <Accordion title="Plus">
    A small business with employees. Adds NHIMA, which you need the moment you employ anyone, and
    a second user so the bookkeeper is not sharing the owner's login.

    Payroll becomes available as an add-on at this tier.

  <Accordion title="Pro">

    obligations covers a fuller compliance load, and you gain WCF and local council coverage.

    Right for anyone with more than a handful of staff.

## What counts against your limits

| Limit                | Counts                                                            |
| -------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Obligations** | Active recurring requirements. A paused obligation does not count |
| **Service requests** | Requests created in the current month. Resets monthly |
| **Users** | Active members. Pending invitations count |
| **Storage** | Total size of everything in your document vault |
| **Regulators** | Which bodies you can connect, not how many connections |

## When you reach a limit

Bumara tells you before you are blocked.

| Limit                | What happens                                                          |
| -------------------- | --------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Service requests** | You cannot create more this month. Upgrade, or wait for the reset |
| **Users** | You cannot invite anyone else. Upgrade, or remove someone |
| **Storage** | You cannot upload. Add the storage add-on, or remove unneeded files |
| **Obligations** | You cannot activate another. Upgrade, or pause one you no longer need |
| **Regulators** | The regulator is not offered. Upgrade to the tier that includes it |

If a limit is blocking compliance work, you receive a message about it. Do not simply wait — a
blocked filing still has its deadline. See
[Messages and timeline](/compliance/messages-and-timeline).

## Downgrading

<Warning>
  Before downgrading, check you are within the lower plan's limits. If you have five users and

## Overages

Some items are included up to a limit and charged beyond it. Anything charged as an overage is
labelled as such before you commit to it — you are never billed for something you were not shown
the price of.
