# Create your account

> Sign up, verify your email, and create or join an organisation in Bumara.

Your Bumara login is personal to you. Your **organisation** is the business it belongs to.
One login can belong to more than one organisation — useful if you run two businesses, or if
you are a consultant working across several clients.

## Sign up

<Steps>
  <Step title="Go to the sign-up page">
    Open Bumara and choose **Create an account**. You can sign up with an email address and
    password, or with a Google account.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter your details">
    Give your full name, work email address and a password. Use an address you check daily —
    filing reminders and submission confirmations go here.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Verify your email">
    Bumara sends a verification link. Open it from the same device if you can. The link expires,
    so if it has been sitting in your inbox for a while, request a new one from the sign-in page.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose what to do next">
    After verifying you are asked whether you are **creating a new organisation** or
    **joining an existing one**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Creating a new organisation

Choose this if your business is not yet on Bumara. You will be the first member and will hold
the **Owner** role, which can do everything including managing billing and inviting others.

You are taken straight into [Set up your business](/start/set-up-your-business), where you enter
your trading details and connect your regulators.

<Tip>
  Only one person should create the organisation. If a colleague has already created it,
  ask them to invite you instead — otherwise you end up with two separate businesses in Bumara
  that cannot see each other's data.
</Tip>

## Joining an existing organisation

Choose this if a colleague has already set up your business on Bumara.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Ask for an invitation">
    An Owner or Admin in your organisation invites you from **Settings → Team**. The invitation
    goes to your email address and includes the role they have chosen for you.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open the invitation link">
    Accepting the invitation attaches your login to that organisation. If you do not have a
    Bumara account yet, the link walks you through creating one first.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Confirm what you can see">
    Your role decides which parts of Bumara you can open. If something you expected is missing,
    it is almost always a role setting — see [Team and roles](/account/team-and-roles).
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Switching between organisations

If your login belongs to more than one organisation, an organisation switcher appears at the
top of the sidebar. Everything you see — filings, invoices, employees, documents — belongs to
the organisation currently selected. Data never crosses between organisations.

<Warning>
  Before you create an invoice, run payroll or upload a document, glance at the organisation
  switcher. Posting a client's payroll into the wrong organisation is tedious to unwind.
</Warning>

## Keeping your account secure

Your Bumara account holds employee bank details, salary figures and regulator credentials. Treat
it like online banking.

* Use a password you do not use anywhere else.
* Never share a login — invite the person properly so actions are attributed to them in the
  timeline.
* Sign out on shared or public machines.
* Tell an Owner immediately if you think your password has been seen by someone else.

See [Security and privacy](/account/security-and-privacy) for what Bumara does to protect your data.

<Note>
  Next: [Set up your business](/start/set-up-your-business) — the details Bumara needs before it
  can work out what you owe.
